LVSOC-26 Overview

The LVSOC-26 (Low Voltage State of Charge) board is a dedicated sensor node for monitoring the low-voltage battery status of the formula student car.

It interfaces with a MAX17205 battery gauge to accurately measure:

  • Battery Voltage
  • Current (instantaneous, rolling average, and peak)
  • State of Charge (SOC)
  • Remaining Capacity
  • Time-to-Empty (TTE) and Time-to-Full (TTF)

This data is then packed and transmitted over the vehicle's CAN bus, ensuring that the main ECU and Telemetry systems have real-time visibility into the low-voltage accumulator's health and performance.

System Architecture

  • Sensing: The system utilizes the Maxim Integrated MAX17205 IC over I2C to gather precision metrics.
  • Processing: The STM32 microcontroller aggregates these metrics, such as computing a 10-second rolling average and tracking peak current usage.
  • Communication: Utilizing bxCAN with our generic CAN driver wrappers, the board transmits its findings as periodic CAN messages.
